Do You Have the Flu? Find Out With a Flu Test at UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Country Walk

A simple flu test performed by the medical professionals at UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Country Walk can quickly determine if you have influenza A or B. We save time by using our own on-site lab instead of sending flu test samples out to a third-party clinic for evaluation. And, for enhanced accuracy, the result of every flu test we perform is analyzed by an on-site physician. Once we identify the cause of your symptoms, we can recommend the best treatment approach to help you feel better and lower the risk of contagion.

A physician at UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Country Walk may diagnose you with influenza A or B based on your symptoms alone — especially during flu season — or the results of a flu test. To help your body fight off the infection, we may prescribe an antiviral medication. However, this type of treatment is generally most effective if it is started within two days of exposure to the virus (that’s why it’s important to have a flu test as soon as you notice symptoms). If you are diagnosed outside of that timeframe and do not have any signs of complications, or if you are diagnosed with the common cold, we may recommend that you simply:

  • Stay at home for a few days (at least 24 hours after your fever is gone)
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Drink clear liquids like water, tea, and ginger ale to help you stay hydrated
  • Consume hot drinks and soups to clear your congested airways and help you breathe easier
  • Take over-the-counter medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce fever or relieve body aches
  • Wash your hands often

For the assessment and treatment of non-severe cold and flu symptoms, UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Country Walk is a convenient and appropriate alternative to a primary care physician’s office or emergency room. If you’d like to have a flu test, simply stop by any time between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and we’ll put you on the path to recovery as quickly as possible.
