Obtain an RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) Test at UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Keystone Point
RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, is a common infection that can cause congestion, coughing, difficulty breathing, and a low-grade fever. This highly contagious condition is most common in children, although adults can catch RSV as well. Prompt treatment can help alleviate symptoms and prevent the virus from causing more serious issues such as pneumonia or bronchiolitis, although it’s important to first confirm a respiratory syncytial virus diagnosis if the condition is suspected. At UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Keystone Point, we can perform a rapid RSV test in a matter of minutes, helping patients get the answers they need and the treatment they deserve.
At UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Keystone Point, we can test for and treat RSV in the same office visit. Our physicians can take a small fluid sample from a patient’s nasal cavity and test it in our in-house lab, using the results to determine if respiratory syncytial virus is the cause of the patient’s discomfort. If a patient’s respiratory condition is more advanced and there is a chance that pneumonia is also present, we can perform X-rays on site to check for that. And, no matter which lab tests or imaging scans are performed during a patient’s visit, the results will be read by an experienced radiologist or pathologist in addition to an on-site physician to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
If a patient is diagnosed with RSV, our physicians may recommend:
- Over-the-counter fever reducers such as acetaminophen
- Antibiotics if the virus is accompanied by bacterial pneumonia
- Medications to open the air passages
To have an RSV test performed and obtain the treatments you need to start feeling better, stop by UHealth Jackson Urgent Care – Keystone Point whenever you’re able. We are open seven days a week and do not require appointments for rapid RSV testing.
