Intramuscular Injection at Miami-Dade Walk-in Centers

An intramuscular injection delivers medication deep into the muscles, which facilitates quick absorption into the bloodstream. They are recommended for patients unable to take oral medications, require drugs that are irritating to veins, or have a vein that can’t be located. Intramuscular injections are often given in your upper arms, thighs, hips, and buttocks. These sites have large, easy to locate muscles and a little fatty tissue covering them.

How Our Urgent Care Can Help

You can walk in to any nearby UHealth Jackson Urgent Care center without an appointment and be seen quickly by a UHealth—the University of Miami Health System board-certified doctor. All our urgent care centers are equipped to provide a variety of intramuscular injections such as flu shots, tetanus shots, and more.

Our doctors and providers will perform a full examination and ask about any allergies. If deemed necessary, after determining that there are no underlying serious medical conditions, a doctor will begin administering an intramuscular injection. During an intramuscular injection, an area of the skin is disinfected before a needle is inserted into the muscle. From there, a medicine or vaccine is delivered directly into the muscle for fast absorption.
