All our urgent care centers are equipped to provide a variety of intramuscular injections such as flu shots, tetanus shots, and more.
Our doctors and providers will perform a full examination and ask about any allergies. If deemed necessary, after determining that there are no underlying serious medical conditions, a doctor will begin administering an intramuscular injection. During an intramuscular injection, an area of the skin is disinfected before a needle is inserted into the muscle. From there, a medicine or vaccine is delivered directly into the muscle for fast absorption.

An intramuscular injection usually takes 5 to 10 minutes for the muscle to fully absorb the medicine or vaccine.
Where is an intramuscular injection given?
There are four general locations where intramuscular injections are given. The deltoid muscle, located in the upper arm, is the most common site for vaccines. An intramuscular injection is also often given in the thighs, hips, and buttocks
Does an intramuscular injection hurt?
Depending on the medication or vaccine, there is usually some discomfort at the injection site. Soreness in the muscle is also common.
